St. Francis parishioners and members of the congregation of Temple Beth-El, Stamford, enjoyed an interfaith exchange this past weekend.
On Friday, December 8, members of St. Francis visited Temple Beth-El for their Shabbat service, and Rabbi Josh Hammerman and Rev. Mark Lingle discussed the differences in Jewish and Christian understandings of the Messiah. On Sunday, December 10, members of Temple Beth-El joined us at the 10:00 AM service, at which Rabbi Joshua Hammerman preached about the meaning of the Messiah in the Jewish tradition.
This came about as a result of a recent meeting between the St. Francis Executive Committee and members of Temple Beth-El to discuss ways that our congregations could collaborate and develop stronger ties with each other.
We are continually bombarded with news and images of strife and discord. It is wonderful to be engaged with another covenant community for the up-building of Stamford and understanding between our traditions!
