Welcome to St. Francis
This is an open, progressive, inclusive congregation with men and women serving as clergy and members from Episcopal, Lutheran, other Protestant, Roman Catholic, and non-Christian traditions.
About Us: Who We Are
St. Francis is an Episcopal Church with a rich history of serving Greater Stamford. While a part of a traditional liturgical denomination, St. Francis encourages a flexible and nimble faith.
We recognize the complexity of the world, demanding critical thought and compassionate action for the strengthening of society and the larger creation.
Service to others (to the local community, national and international service organizations) is central to the St. Francis community. Parishioners give generously of their time and energy to in-kind service over the course of a year. We annually donate monies to support local and international service organizations.
We believe that wonder is the beginning of wisdom and trust - all are welcome before God. Our life together is, in part, a growing into greater awareness of God’s presence and our calling individually and collectively to embody God’s presence in the world.
In 2008, St. Francis Parish developed the following position on Marriage Equality: St. Francis Parish affirms its commitment to the inclusiveness inherent in our baptismal covenant to respect the dignity of every human being, including the commitment to bless equally the unions of all couples seeking the sacramental recognition of marriage within the church.
Further, the Episcopal Church at its 2015 General Convention in Salt Lake City changed the canons of the Episcopal Church and the language in the rites concerning marriage in The Book of Common Prayer. This change allows for the equal blessing of all couples seeking to enter into the covenant of Christian marriage, regardless of gender.
