On August 14, 2021, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck southern Haiti, causing 2,248 deaths, injuring more than 12,760 people, and resulting in about $2 billion in damages. Through the generosity of St. Francis parishioners, the Special Collection organized by the Outreach Committee generated $2,136, which was sent to Hope for Haiti, a US-based nonprofit organization that has ben working in Haiti for over 30 years. As we near the first anniversary of the earthquake, we thought that it would be helpful to report on the work that has been done. Hope for Haiti and its partners provided critical humanitarian relief and recovery for 750,000 individuals in Haiti. They have developed a long-term response plan to continue to help families in the Greater South of Haiti rebuild. Hope for Haiti recently shared their January – June 2022 Impact Report with the Outreach Committee, which you can read here. Please continue to keep the people of Haiti in your prayers.
