Terry and Brian Murphy presented a framed needlepoint picture of St. Francis of Assisi to the parish at the Annual Meeting in January. The needlepoint was created by Jocelyn Cooper in the 90’s and recently donated to St. Francis by her son, Nicholas. Jocelyn and her husband, John, were longtime parishioners of the Church in the 70’s and 80’s.
The intricate design is an image of St. Francis surrounded by flowers and animals. It is a perfect example of petit point needlepoint and measures 2 ½’ x 3’. Petit point embroidery is stitched onto a painted canvas traditionally with silk thread. Each dot of color is one stitch which is smaller than the head of a sewing pin. Jocelyn never told anyone how long it took her to create this magnificent picture, but we're guessing it could have taken two or more years.
The picture is now hanging on the left side of the Sanctuary (on the wall behind where the clergy sit during services). Please come and look at this beautiful work of art! We are grateful to have this beautiful picture hanging in our church for all to enjoy!
